The three potluck styles
How much control the host keeps over who brings what.
All three styles produce a menu with names against dishes. They differ in who can put items on the list and who can put a name against them.
Host assigns
You write the list and put a name against each item. Guests see what they are bringing but cannot add or claim.
Menu, guests claim
You write the list of what is needed. Guests put their own name against an item and can release it again.
Open, bring anything
Anyone can add an item, and adding one claims it for them.
What the menu gives you
-
A portion hint — The header shows the adults and children who have said yes, so guests can size their dish to the real number rather than the invitation list.
-
A duplicate check — Typing a dish whose name overlaps something already listed shows a warning. It does not stop you adding it.
-
Categories — Items group into mains, sides, dessert, drinks and supplies, so gaps in the menu are visible at a glance.
-
Suggestions — Daawat can propose dishes that suit the occasion, each ready to add in one tap.
Note — The host can edit, reassign or delete any item in every mode, whichever style is selected.
