Settling up
Mark a payment as sent, and have the recipient confirm it.
Settling has two steps: the payer marks the money as sent, and the recipient confirms it arrived. Neither step moves real money. The payment itself happens in your bank or payment app.
Until the recipient confirms, the payment shows as awaiting confirmation on both of your screens.
Paying

Use their payment button
PayPal, Venmo and Cash App open with their handle and the exact amount filled in. Bank details and anything else come with a copy button.

Send the money
This happens outside Daawat, in whichever app or bank you used.

Then tap Mark paid
This notifies them and asks them to confirm.
Receiving
When someone marks a payment to you it appears under Owed to you with a confirm button, and you are notified. Confirming completes the settlement and notifies them back.
Note — Marking as paid updates the balances straight away rather than waiting for the confirmation, so the amount stops showing as owed as soon as you send it. The confirmation records that the recipient agrees.
Why you may owe someone unexpected
Daawat reduces all the balances to the fewest possible payments rather than matching each expense to the people who consumed it, so you may be asked to pay someone who did not buy anything you used. The amounts are still correct. Everyone else's transfers are listed underneath, collapsed, if you want to see how the whole event resolves.
Tip — Cash works the same way. Hand the money over, mark it paid, and let them confirm.
