Bringing someone extra
Always allowed. The host is told automatically.
Bringing someone who was not strictly invited is never blocked. Raise the counter for whoever is coming and save. The host is notified of the change automatically, so you do not need to message them separately.
When you will see a note

Solo events — Any second adult, or any child or grandparent, shows a note that you are beyond what the host planned for.

Couples events — The same, once you go past two adults or add children or grandparents.

Family events — No note is ever shown, whatever numbers you enter.
The note is advisory. It does not stop you saving and does not need dismissing, and the host is notified either way.
Tip — If the extra person comes to most things, such as a partner or a parent, add them to your family in your profile. Family invitations will then arrive with them already counted, and you can name them on the reply.
